9/11 Tribute from 15 years out

“Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?” Alan Jackson

John 15 :13

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

1 John 3:16
By this we know what love is: Jesus laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers

“Do you Remember?”

3000 killed , 343 Fire, 71 Law enforcement

World Trade Center, Pentagon, Flight 93 in PA.

4461 from 2003 to 2014 Military

I can still close my eyes and see the clear blue sky. I remember the little TV being turned on and the airplane flying into the second Tower.

As the then Deputy Chief I could not leave my home and District to go help. I dearly wanted too.

Many responded to assist, Airplanes were grounded and the skies were quiet.

The stories started coming from the City of NY

People volunteered for almost everything. I processed almost 100 applications at Vienna. Churches filled up and folks joined.

Flags Flew and America went to War.

I believe Our Service personnel and Law Enforcement and Emergency Services are huge Heros.

What it  means to be This fireman after 911.

I am asked these questions after 911 :

How Long have you been with the Fire Department?… 42years

Are You Just a Volunteer?… Answer…

I am The Chief. Wow

How Long? 12 years

What does it take to be a Firefighter?

  1. Brought in to bring Vienna some young men
  2. 12 handpicked to learn about the department
  3. By the early 80’s the youth had all but operational control
  4. 1989 the change occurred-
  5. Learning curve and teaching
  6. Merger
  7. Reality of Full Service Fire Protection

That Feeling of not being able to help.

Sense of loss

Closeness to our neighbors

Unexplained Joy at being able to use the Training to help.

Knowing that God is  With Us!
